Novice Racer Information
| Upcoming Training Session - 2/28/09, 10am -1pm at Crescent Valley HS | Topics will focus on Safety, Handling Skills, Clothing, Pack Riding, Tactics in regard to safety and possibly a litte on mechanics, nutrition and racing tactics, in general. Please bring your bike, dress for bad weather and bring food. We'll likely be sitting still or doing low effort drills, so you won't generate a lot of heat for most of the session. We will go out on the road to practice our new skills, so bring mirrors, pumps, tubes..all the stuff you'd normally use out on the road. |
General Information and Checklists
This information is meant for the new racer interested in being prepared for their first few races. The focus will be primarily on road races in the winter/spring and will address things like clothing, handling skills, racing rules and racing etiquette. This is a short one-day session organized to get you thinking in the right direction, and to recognize the areas for improvement for future focus. While tactics, fitness, mechanic skills and nutrition will all be mentioned, there is insufficient time to do them justice. Please seek further coaching or advice for more information in these areas.
Below are a few checklists which will be useful in prep for your first race. Many experienced racers also find such a printed checklist helpful simply due to the fact that there is a lot to remember. Cycling is a somewhat gear-intensive sport, and there is a lot to forget.
